Weekly Releases: Week of March 1

It’s now March, and it’s another strong week in video game releases.  This is especially true for strategy game fans.  Both Halo Wars on Xbox 360 and Empire Total War on PC hit shelves this week.  These are two very different strategy games, however.  Halo Wars is more casual, but that makes it fit a console better, and Empire is far deeper, appealing to the hardcore PC crowd.  Another game arriving this week is Tom Clancy’s HAWX, an extension of the Tom Clancy series.  This game is a flight combat game with some interesting possibilities to connect with the other Tom Clancy games like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.  The final highlight release of the week is the cleverly abbreviated Phantasy Star Portable on PSP (PSP on PSP…yeah?), a remake of the classic Sega RPG.  For the rest of the releases, hit the jump.

Several Popular Franchises Hitting PSP

Written by Ryan Casey on February 24, 2009 – 2:17 pm -

The Lilac PSP

The PSP’s release list may look a bit dry right now, but today Sony announced several new titles for its portable system coming from some very popular video games series.  The best part?  Gamers won’t have to wait long to play these games: they are all due by the end of 2009.  The first of these games is LittleBigPlanet Portable, a portable translation of last year’s PS3 game-creation game.  Surprisingly, this version will have all the level creation and sharing features of the PS3 version, except in a portable form.  There is no need to worry because it is being developed by both Media Molecule and Sony Cambridge.  The next game announced is another Sony franchise, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge.  As the title suggests, this installment in the MotorStorm series is set in the snowy environment of Alaska.  This is being developed by Bigbig Studios, the developer behind the Pursuit Force games.  Next, Ubisoft will bring Assassin’s Creed Portable this year along with a new system bundle including the game for $199.99, but no further details have been released.  Finally, Harmonix and MTV Games are exclusively bringing Rock Band Unplugged to PSP along with the first in-game DLC store on a PSP game.  No details have been released on this game either, but I can only imagine how it would be played.  More announcements are beneath the jump.
